Transmission status codes - Outbound Fax

The information in this manual applies to the following products:

  • Fax-for-Applications

  • Email-to-Fax

  • WebExpress

  • Faxolution for Windows

  • Faxolution for SAP

Status codes

The following table displays the status codes that you may encounter. Please note that you will only see a Retarus internal status code if the problem remains after there have been 10 retry attempts to process the fax.

Busy

BUSY

Destination number busy, e.g. recipient's fax machine is receiving a long fax or high fax volume.

Retry.

Contact the recipient if necessary.

Person/Modem

NOFAX

No Fax Device

Call not received by the fax device - call answered by a person, an answering machine, or a modem.

This could also indicate a carrier interconnect problem.

Retry.

Contact the recipient if necessary.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

NOFAX_DIS

Fax Disconnect

Call not received by the fax device - the recipient ended communication; the call was answered by a person who hung up.

This could also indicate a carrier interconnect problem.

Retry.

Contact the recipient if necessary.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

NOFAX_TO

Fax Timeout

Call was accepted but no fax protocol signal was provided. A timeout occurred while waiting for the recipient to be identified as a fax device.

This could also indicate a carrier interconnect problem.

Retry.

Contact the recipient if necessary.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

No answer

RING_TO

Ring Timeout

A timeout occurred while waiting for a response. The fax device does not answer, e.g., the fax device is switched off, the call is automatically transferred to a telephone, the fax device is out of paper.

Retry.

Contact the recipient if necessary.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

Wrong number

CHANGED_NO

Changed Number

Received a recorded message that the dialed number has changed.

Contact the recipient.

DIAL_NC

No Connection

Call setup failed at the carrier level, e.g., the phone company rejected the dialed number as incomplete, invalid, or temporarily disconnected.

Verify the number and retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

DIAL_TO

Timeout

Timeout occurred at carrier level during call setup.

Verify the number and retry.

Contact the recipient.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

WRONG_NO

Wrong, invalid, or unassigned number.

Verify the number and retry.

INVALID_NO

Invalid number structure.

Verify the number and retry.

WOUT_TO

Output Window Timeout

Call setup timeout before there is a ringtone (this is usually a carrier problem).

Verify the number.

Contact the recipient.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

Job Cancelled

CANCELLED

The fax job was manually canceled by the sender.

Resend if necessary.

EXP_CANC

Expiry Cancellation

The fax job was not completed and was automatically canceled at the expiration timestamp.

Contact the administrator regarding the expiration timestamp setting or the root cause.

Attachment

RENDERING_ERROR

Unable to convert the attachment(s) and/or cover pages into a fax document, e.g., a password-protected PDF document.

Verify that the document is in a supported file format and is not password protected or encrypted, then try again.

Contact the administrator regarding the list configuration in the EAS* portal.

UNKNOWN_FAX_FILE

At least one of the files to be sent is missing, or the filename is missing.

Fax-for-Applications only.

Resend with the file name(s).

UNSUPPORTED_FILETYPE

Unable to convert the document to a fax because the document has an attachment that lacks a supported filename extension.

Verify that the document is in a supported file format and has a valid file name extension, and then try again.

Fax Transmission Error

BAD_LINES

Fax may be illegible due to a degraded transmission or line errors, and/or the receiving system may not support error correction.

Retry.

Contact the recipient.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

DIAL_GF

Dial General Failure

Call setup failure at the carrier level.

Retry.

Contact the recipient.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

EOD_FAILED

The fax is confirmed as not received, although in practice it often reaches the recipient successfully. For example, the reverse channel is suddenly broken in one direction because the recipient is not protocol compliant or there is a communication problem.

May be due to line quality (noise). Appears later in the transmission than the PAGE_SEND_ERR code.

Retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

FANS_GF

Fax General Failure

The connection was interrupted due to protocol errors in the counterpart station during protocol exchange.

Retry.

Contact the recipient.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

NO_REMOTEINFO

The remote station hung up before transmitting its identity name or before being able to configure another transmission mode.

Retry.

Contact the recipient.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

NO_TRAIN/ NO_TRAINING

No Successful Training Possible

Remote disconnect during negotiation of fax speed and features before the last page is delivered.
May also map to the NOFAX_DIS status code.

Retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

PAGE_SEND_ERR

Fax job could not be sent, e.g., the fax device is out of paper, the connection was lost, or a protocol error terminated the transmission before the last page.

Appears earlier in the transmission than the EOD_FAILED status code.

Retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

REM_DIS

Remote Disconnect

Remote disconnect after detecting fax tones. The recipient hung up.

Retry.

Contract the recipient if necessary.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

EAS* configuration

DOMAIN_DENIED

The domain is not an enabled sender domain.
Email-to-Fax only.

Verify the domain.

Contact the administrator to confirm/activate the sender’s domain in the EAS* portal.

NUMBER_DENIED

The fax number cannot be dialed due to configuration in the EAS* portal.
Email-to-Fax only.

Verify the number.

Contact the administrator to configure or correct the fax number in the EAS* portal.

PBLACKLIST

Private Blocklist

The number is on your company-specific blocklist and cannot be contacted.

Faxolution for Windows only.

Verify the number.

Contact the administrator about the blocklist configuration.

USER_DENIED

The email address is not an enabled sender address.

Email-to-Fax only.

Verify the email address.
Contact the administrator to validate/activate the sender's email address in the EAS* portal.

Forbidden Number

BLACKLIST

Public Blocklist

The number may be on the BITKOM Robinson List (Germany-based numbers) or ECOFAX (France-based numbers) and cannot be contacted because the relevant list has been activated by the regulatory authorities.

Contact the recipient.

Internal Retarus Issue

BAD_FILE

An internal error occurred during processing before establishing a fax transmission.

Retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

EXPIRED

An internal error occurred during processing before establishing a fax transmission.

Retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

FAXUNIT_NA

An internal error occurred during processing before establishing a fax transmission.

Retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

MISSING_FAX_FILE

An internal error occurred during processing before establishing a fax transmission.

Retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

NOFILE

An internal error occurred during processing before establishing a fax transmission.

Retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

Unknown Error

COMERROR

An unknown error occurred during transmission.

An internal error occurred during processing before establishing a fax transmission.

Fax-for-Applications only.

Retry.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.

FAILURE

An unknown error occurred while preparing the job for transmission.

An internal error occurred during processing before establishing a fax transmission.

Fax-for-Applications only.

Retry.

Check the provided reason for hints.

If the problem persists, open a Retarus support ticket.
