Salesforce: Setting Up Enterprise SMS Gateway (SMTP)

This tutorial outlines the prerequisites and necessary steps to connect Retarus Enterprise SMS with Salesforce and as example through the Salesforce Sales Cloud Application.

Prerequisites

  • In this scenario, a Salesforce test account (https://developer.salesforce.com/signup) will be used.

  • A mail address, domain that allows for DNS SPF modification.

  • A Retarus Account and activated Domain for Email-to-SMS (SMTP Gateway).

  • Enterprise Administration (EAS) portal access to the Email-to-SMS Configurationto set up your email address.

  • Email-to-SMS Documentation.

Email-to-SMS Setup Example: Salesforce Sales Cloud

1. Create a developer test account

2. Configure Email-to-SMS

→ Configure the Email-to-SMS product for the email address/domain with the Salesforce Developer Account.

→ Add the email address to the related Customer Account and Profile.

3. Salesforce Sales Cloud

→ On the top-left corner select the Sales Cloud (in the screenshot German "Vertrieb")

4. Set up the sending Salesforce contact for SMS

→ Go to contacts, and create a contact with an email domain that was provided by Retarus related to the needed datacenter region: <your_number>@RetarusDatacenterRegionDomain.xx

5. SPF check

→ It must be ensured that the right SPF record is set up behind the domain

This can be checked, for example, here: https://www.spf-record.com/spf-lookup

6. Send a test SMS

→ Create your SM Message content through the created Salesforce contact and send your SMS.

7. Sales Cloud Activity Report

Your Email-to-SMS will be shown in your Salesforce Mail history.

8. SMS test

SMS will be displayed "as always" from Email-to-SMS just depending on your EAS Email-to-SMS configuration.

9. Retarus Reporting Portal

Reporting and SMS Statuses can be checked through the Admin Account in the Retarus Enterprise Reporting Portal or could be provided via push and pull through the Retarus Reporting API.
