Salesforce: SMS for Salesforce User Guide

With Retarus SMS for Salesforce, you can send text messages easily and intuitively. Through seamless integration, text messages can be triggered directly and automatized in a personalized way by using Flow Builder, accelerating customer processes and improving customer satisfaction. The solution also supports quick direct responses and can be equipped with different functionalities depending on the user requirements for embedding custom components into the user dashboard by the administrator.

How to send SMS texts from Salesforce

As shown in the screenshot below of the SMS for Salesforce user dashboard, users can easily compose and send SMS text messages directly from the Contacts tab by typing their message in the SMS entry field.

To compose and send a new SMS text:

  • Go to the Contacts tab.

  • Select the SMS text recipient from your Salesforce contacts.

  • Type the text message to be sent in the SMS text entry field:

    • The default for the maximum number of characters is set at 160 characters.

    • The user can toggle on or toggle off the following message status, tracking, and quality options:

    • The user can select the delivery priority option from the dropdown list. For this example, the image-20240828-140740.png delivery priority was chosen from the dropdown list.

    • To send the SMS text entered, click the image-20240827-221243.png button.
      → The text message is sent using the criteria selected.

How to view sent SMS messages tagged as tasks

  • SMS for Salesforce tracks SMS texts as tasks. The screenshot below shows the Tasks tab in the SMS for Salesforce user dashboard.

To view your SMS texts logged as a task:

  • Go to the Tasks tab.
    → The task status is easily seen at the top of the Task view page. This example shows the SMS text was sent and the task status as Completed.

How to view the SMS API logs with detailed SMS API activity

Use the SMS API Logs to view detailed SMS API activity. Inbound and outbound SMS texts are logged as a task.

To view the API logs for your SMS texts:

  • Go to the SMS API Logs tab.
    → The SMS API Logs screen allows users to search for and view specific SMS messages.

Automating your business processes with Flow Builder and Process Builder

Using Flow Builder with Retarus SMS for Salesforce

Use the Salesforce Flow Builder tool to build automated SMS processes in Salesforce without writing code.

  • The Flow Builder user-friendly interface makes it quick and easy to visually design and construct SMS process flows by dragging and dropping the process elements.

    • Some examples of common SMS processes to automate include sending a payment receipt acknowledgment SMS, sending an out-of-stock notification SMS, and sending an appointment reminder SMS.

Using Process Builder with Retarus SMS for Salesforce

Salesforce Process Builder is a legacy tool that helps automate business processes.

  • Although Process Builder can currently be used to help with process automation, Salesforce announced they will no longer support Process Builder, as of December 31, 2025.

Due to Salesforce retiring Process Builder in Dec 2025, it is recommended to use Flow Builder.

  • Salesforce Flow Builder is a tool that helps build more complex, interactive processes and screens.

  • The Process Builder - SMSNotification screenshot below shows the Select and Define Action screen where users can easily build and automate processes.
