FAQs about the blacklist function

What is the purpose of the blacklist function? How can I switch it on?

The blacklist function lets you exclude numbers from transmission. The blacklisted numbers are stored by Retarus Faxolution for Windows in a text file. To switch on the blacklist function, click on the Blacklist button in the menu toolbar. Select the Blacklist Activated option.

Where is the blacklist file saved?

The default directory is C:\ProgramData\Faxolution4Win\Blacklist.

The folder also contains a sample fax blacklist file namedFax-blacklist.txt.

To specify a different blacklist file, click Select file image-20240528-152155.png, and select the blacklist file you created.

What is the format of the blacklist file?

The blacklist format is described in the sample file Fax-Blacklist.txt provided. Lines beginning with # are comment rows, not blacklist entries.

How can I add individual numbers to the blacklist file?

In the menu toolbar, click on the Blacklist button.

To add a number to the blacklist, click on the image-20240528-152305.png button and add the number to the list.

Alternatively, you can use a text editor to add entries (numbers) to the blacklist file.

How can I add multiple numbers to the blacklist file at once?

You can add lists created using the conventions described in Where is the blacklist saved and What is the format of the blacklist file to the existing entries. To import a file containing numbers you want to blacklist, click on the image-20240528-152406.png button.

Alternatively, you can use a text editor to open the blacklist file and add entries.

What happens when the blacklist file is not found or is corrupt?

If the Blacklist Activated option is selected in the profile settings, but the blacklist file is not found or is corrupt, you have to deselect the blacklist function before the fax job can be sent.

How are blacklisted numbers identified in a fax job?

Numbers in a fax job that were on the blacklist are assigned a PBLACKLIST status.

How do I switch on the blacklist function in mail merges? Is there a comment?

Yes. To use the blacklist function in mail merges, you can use the @@PBlackList <Value>@@ command. Possible values include Use | DontUse.

How can I search the blacklist?

Open the blacklist function, click on the image-20240528-155738.png button, and enter your search term(s) in the Find window.

What happens to duplicate entries?

If the standardized number and comment are the same, the first entry is used. Standardized numbers are in the following format, which Faxolution for Windows converts automatically:
