Directory Synchronization Workshop

Objective

The Directory Synchronization Workshop provides a structured foundation for setting up and configuring automated user synchronization between the customer's directory infrastructure and Retarus services.

The workshop is designed to:

  • establish a common understanding of the Retarus Directory Synchronization capabilities

  • assess the customer's directory environment and export requirements

  • define the mapping logic for user profiles, aliases, and service-specific attributes

  • design the synchronization solution including configuration file structure

  • document the agreed setup as the basis for implementation

The objective is to ensure the customer enters the implementation phase with a validated synchronization design, defined mapping rules, and documented configuration parameters — regardless of which Retarus services are in scope.

Typical Customer Scenarios

The service is particularly suitable for customers with:

  • initial deployment of Retarus services requiring automated user provisioning

  • existing manual user management that needs to be replaced by automated directory synchronization

  • multiple Retarus services (E-Mail, Fax, SMS) requiring consolidated user synchronization

  • complex directory environments with multiple sources or non-standard attribute structures

  • upcoming migration or restructuring of their identity infrastructure (Active Directory, Azure AD, IAM)

Scope of Services

Directory Synchronization Fundamentals The workshop includes:

  • introduction to the Retarus automated directory synchronization tool and its capabilities

  • overview of supported synchronization models and integration patterns

  • review of prerequisites and technical requirements

Customer Directory Assessment Structured review of the customer's directory environment, including:

  • Active Directory or directory source structure and export capabilities

  • attribute availability and quality relevant to Retarus service provisioning

  • multiple directory source scenarios where applicable

Mapping & Configuration Design Collaborative design session covering:

  • user profile mapping (directory attributes to Retarus service profiles)

  • alias mapping for email services where applicable

  • fax number and messaging attribute mapping where applicable

  • service-specific configuration requirements (EAS user maintenance, list management)

  • definition of the synchronization configuration file structure (XML)

Solution Design Consolidation of all mapping and configuration decisions into a documented synchronization design, including:

  • agreed mapping rules and attribute handling

  • configuration parameters and synchronization behavior

  • identified edge cases, exclusions, and open items

Deliverables

The workshop provides:

  • Workshop presentation (PDF)

  • Directory Synchronization Design Document (PDF) — documenting mapping rules, configuration parameters, and solution design decisions

Customer Responsibilities

The customer is responsible for providing:

  • relevant technical contacts with knowledge of the directory infrastructure (Active Directory, Azure AD, or equivalent)

  • documentation or access to the directory attribute structure

  • information on which Retarus services require user provisioning

  • participation in the workshop and timely review of the design document

Delays in providing directory structure information or attribute documentation may impact solution design quality and delivery timelines.

Assumptions & Limitations

The workshop covers design and documentation. The following are out of scope:

  • technical implementation or activation of the directory synchronization

  • configuration of the synchronization tool or XML file deployment

  • Active Directory or IAM infrastructure changes on the customer side

  • custom development or non-standard integration patterns

  • ongoing synchronization monitoring or operational support

Outcome

After completion of the workshop, the customer receives:

  • a validated synchronization design tailored to their directory environment and Retarus service portfolio

  • documented mapping rules and configuration parameters ready for implementation

  • a clear foundation for technical setup and activation of automated directory synchronization
