Data center operations

With Retarus Transactional Email Infrastructure, you can send outbound emails to recipients worldwide. Retarus transmits your messages over the internet to the intended recipients, with full support for SPF and DKIM authentication.

Retarus prioritizes security, flexibility, and high availability for all cloud-based messaging services. To ensure availability, Retarus maintains an Active/Active setup with geographically separate data centers in each region, connected via DNS round-robin. Both data centers in each region provide complete functionality for Retarus Transactional Email services.

Security measures (both regions)

  • Access monitored via cameras and security guards

  • Multiple physical access barriers (e.g., mantraps, biometric scanners)

  • Authorized personnel access only

  • Employees (active and retired) bound to privacy and non-disclosure obligations (GDPR in EU; corporate standards in USA)

Infrastructure operations

  • Both data centers in each region support the full feature set of Retarus Transactional Email services.

  • For dedicated IP addresses in an Active/Active setup, you must order an additional dedicated IP address separately through the article catalog.

Configuration requirements

To use the distributed infrastructure effectively, you must:

  • Configure system endpoints
Use the regional endpoints listed below in your application configuration.

  • Manage DNS cache
Regularly clean your DNS cache to ensure proper failover. If the cache is not refreshed, your systems may continue addressing a faulty data center.

  • Update firewall rules
Allow the Push notification sender IP addresses listed below.

No Retarus-side configuration is required: all backend configuration is handled automatically.

DNS configuration

SPF Records (clobal)

Include the Retarus default SPF record in your DNS configuration to cover all outbound IP addresses used by Retarus:

CODE
v=spf1 include:_spf.general.transactional-mail-a.com ~all

If you implemented this SPF record during the onboarding process, no additional changes are required.

DKIM (global)

DKIM administration is managed centrally by Retarus. No action is required on your part in the event of a data center outage, as DKIM keys and configuration are synchronized across all data centers.
